Donation & refund policy
PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation
Effective Date: October 15, 2026
At PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation, we are committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of the charitable contributions entrusted to our organization. Every donation supports our mission of strengthening communities, assisting individuals and families in need, and creating meaningful opportunities for positive change.
We appreciate the generosity of our donors and have established the following Donation & Refund Policy to provide clear expectations regarding charitable contributions made through our website, fundraising campaigns, and other authorized donation channels.
1. General Donation Policy
All charitable donations made to PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation are considered voluntary contributions intended to support our charitable mission, programs, community outreach initiatives, and operational needs.
Donations are generally nonrefundable, except under the circumstances outlined in this policy or as otherwise required by applicable law.
PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation is committed to exercising responsible financial stewardship, transparency, and accountability in the acceptance, administration, and distribution of all charitable contributions.
2. Designation and Use of Donations
2.1 Unrestricted Donations
Unless a donation is specifically designated by the donor for a particular charitable purpose and that designation is expressly accepted by PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation, or the terms of a fundraising solicitation otherwise establish a restriction, all contributions are considered unrestricted charitable gifts.
Unrestricted donations may be allocated at the organization’s discretion to support charitable programs, community outreach initiatives, administrative and operational expenses, and other activities that further its charitable mission and tax-exempt purposes.
The organization retains discretion over the allocation of unrestricted contributions to address changing community needs and organizational priorities.
2.2 Restricted and Designated Donations
Donations specifically designated for a charitable purpose and accepted by PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation will be administered in accordance with the donor’s accepted restrictions and applicable laws.
Donations received in response to fundraising campaigns that identify a specific charitable purpose will be administered in accordance with the terms communicated to donors and any applicable restrictions.
PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation will not redirect restricted contributions to unrelated purposes without appropriate donor authorization or other legal authority.
The organization reserves the right to decline contributions with restrictions that are inconsistent with its charitable mission, operational capabilities, governing documents, or applicable legal requirements.
2.3 Excess Campaign Contributions
When a fundraising campaign exceeds its stated financial goal or its intended purpose has been fulfilled, remaining funds will be managed in accordance with the restrictions communicated to donors and applicable law.
Where permitted by the terms of the original solicitation, excess funds may be applied toward similar charitable programs or initiatives that further the organization’s mission.
When such flexibility was not established in the original solicitation, PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation will obtain any required authorization or follow other legally permitted procedures before redirecting restricted funds.
The organization remains committed to honoring donor intent while responsibly managing charitable resources to maximize community impact.
3. Circumstances Eligible for Refund Consideration
PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation may consider donation refund requests under the following circumstances:
Duplicate transactions: A donation was unintentionally processed more than once.
Incorrect donation amount: A donor entered an incorrect amount due to a genuine error.
Unauthorized transactions: A donation was made without the authorization of the payment account holder.
Technical or processing errors: A payment processing issue resulted in an unintended charge.
All refund requests will be reviewed individually. Approval is subject to reasonable verification, applicable laws, donor restrictions, and payment processing requirements.
Nothing in this policy limits any refund, reversal, or other remedy required by applicable law.
4. Refund Request Process
Donors seeking a refund should submit a written request to PromiseWork Community Development Corporation within 30 calendar days of the original transaction whenever possible.
Requests should include:
Donor’s full name
Date of donation
Donation amount
Transaction confirmation or receipt number, if available
Reason for requesting the refund
Refund requests may be submitted by email to:
Subject Line: Donation Refund Request
Requests submitted after 30 calendar days may still be considered when required by law or warranted by the circumstances.
The 30-day period is an administrative guideline and does not eliminate any rights or remedies available under applicable law.
5. Refund Review and Processing
Upon receiving a refund request, PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation will review the transaction and determine whether a refund is appropriate based on the circumstances and applicable requirements.
The organization aims to respond to refund requests within 10 business days of receipt.
If additional information is required, the donor may be contacted to provide reasonable supporting documentation.
If approved, refunds will generally be issued to the original payment method used for the transaction.
Processing times may vary depending on the donor’s financial institution or the applicable payment processing provider.
PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation reserves the right to request reasonable documentation to verify a refund request and protect against fraudulent or unauthorized activity.
Refund determinations will be made in good faith and in accordance with applicable laws and payment processing requirements.
6. Fundraising Campaigns and Designated Donations
Donations made toward specific charitable campaigns, community assistance programs, seasonal initiatives, or fundraising goals are generally nonrefundable, subject to the exceptions outlined in this policy and applicable law.
When a donor contributes to a campaign established for a particular charitable purpose, the organization will administer those contributions in accordance with the restrictions communicated to donors.
If a designated program or campaign is canceled, significantly modified, or cannot proceed as originally intended, PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation will evaluate the appropriate handling of the funds in accordance with donor restrictions and applicable law.
When legally permissible, donors may be offered the opportunity to redirect their contributions toward another charitable initiative.
Restricted contributions will not automatically become unrestricted solely because a fundraising goal has been exceeded, a program has been completed, or the original charitable activity can no longer proceed.
Any necessary changes to the use of restricted funds will be handled through appropriate donor authorization or other legally permitted procedures.
7. Recurring Donations
Donors who establish recurring charitable contributions may request cancellation of future donations at any time.
Cancellation requests may be submitted by contacting:
Donors may also use the cancellation features provided through the applicable donation platform, when available.
Cancellation requests should be submitted sufficiently in advance of the next scheduled transaction to allow processing.
PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation will make reasonable efforts to process cancellation requests promptly and prevent additional contributions after cancellation becomes effective.
Cancellation of recurring contributions does not automatically provide a refund for donations previously processed.
Contributions processed before cancellation takes effect remain subject to the terms of this Donation & Refund Policy.
Any applicable legal rights concerning unauthorized or improperly processed recurring transactions remain unaffected.
8. Tax Considerations
PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation is recognized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization under the Internal Revenue Code.
Charitable contributions made to PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation are generally tax-deductible to the extent permitted by applicable federal and state laws.
The amount eligible for a charitable deduction may be reduced when a donor receives goods, services, admission, meals, or other benefits in exchange for a contribution.
Donors will receive donation acknowledgments or receipts, as applicable, to support their charitable giving records and comply with relevant acknowledgment requirements.
If a charitable contribution is refunded, any associated donation acknowledgment or tax receipt may be corrected or canceled to reflect the refunded amount.
Donors are responsible for maintaining appropriate contribution records and are encouraged to consult a qualified tax professional regarding the deductibility of their contributions and any tax implications associated with refunded donations.
PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and compliance with applicable IRS regulations governing charitable contributions.
9. Payment Processing and Security
Donations submitted through our website may be processed using authorized third-party payment service providers.
All refunds are subject to applicable payment processing procedures, security requirements, and legal obligations.
For donor protection, refunds will not ordinarily be issued to an alternative payment method or unrelated individual.
PromiseWorks Community Development Corporation may use transaction records and other information reasonably necessary to verify payments, investigate processing errors, and administer refund requests.
